Verification methodology

Stories in this category are scored on (1) data freshness (within 7 days for fixtures, within 24h for captaincy tables), (2) source diversity (BCCI + operator + at least one independent citation), and (3) cross-validation against operator-side leaderboards. The verification score on each post is the 0–100 composite.

FAQ

How often are news posts updated?

Weekly during the season, monthly in the off-season. Each post carries an "updated" date in the hero block.

Where does the captaincy data come from?

3-year rolling sample, BCCI match scorecards, and operator-side leaderboards. See the methodology guide.

Is this betting news?

No. This category is about fantasy cricket, which is treated as a game of skill in most Indian states. See the state-rules map.

Can I use this for betting?

No — IPL Fantasy Pro does not provide betting advice. The data is for fantasy contests only.

Our editorial process for IPL news

Every news piece published under the IPL Fantasy Pro banner goes through a three-gate editorial process before it reaches the homepage. The three gates are: primary source confirmation, cross-reference, and impact assessment. We will not publish until all three gates pass.

Primary source confirmation means we have an official BCCI release, a franchise's verified social-media handle, or an on-record statement from a player or coach. Cross-reference means at least one independent secondary source confirms the same fact. Impact assessment is the explicit statement of how the news affects fantasy picks — captaincy delta, expected fantasy points change, role allocation shift.

We also run every news piece through a freshness check. Captaincy tables are valid for 24 hours; fixtures are valid for 7 days; venue profiles are valid for the entire season unless we re-survey them. If a piece of news falls outside the freshness window, we re-verify before relying on it for a fantasy pick.

Data sources we cite

Our IPL news section draws on eight primary data sources: (1) BCCI match scorecards and press releases, (2) operator-side leaderboards and ownership data, (3) FIFS — the Federation of Indian Fantasy Sports — regulatory bulletins, (4) RBI guidelines on financial transactions, (5) the IT Act and Section 194BA TDS rules, (6) state Public Gambling Act interpretations, (7) CricViz / CricMetric partnership feeds for player analytics, and (8) our own proprietary tracking spreadsheet that goes back to IPL 2018.

Every data point in every post is traceable to one of these sources. We do not publish unverified claims, rumours, or speculation. If a piece of news is partial or unconfirmed, we label it explicitly as 'doubtful' or 'rumour' and do not include it in our fantasy picks.

How the verification score is calculated

Each post carries a verification score (VER) between 0 and 100. The score is a composite of three components: data freshness (within 7 days for fixtures, within 24 hours for captaincy tables), source diversity (BCCI + operator + at least one independent citation), and cross-validation against operator-side leaderboards.

Posts with a score above 85 are flagged 'high confidence'. Posts between 70 and 85 are flagged 'medium confidence'. Posts below 70 are flagged 'provisional' and we recommend cross-checking before relying on them for fantasy picks.

How to use the IPL news section in your weekly workflow

The recommended weekly workflow is: (1) Tuesday evening — read the captaincy leaderboard and the top-20 players post. (2) Wednesday — check the schedule strategy post for venue clusters and double-header implications. (3) Thursday — read the state-rules update to verify your state is still eligible. (4) Friday evening — check the injury feed for last-minute Tier 1 absences. (5) Saturday morning — final read of all updated posts before locking your team.

Following this workflow reduces decision fatigue and ensures you never miss a critical update. Across our reader-survey data, users who follow the workflow deliver top-30% finishes 26% more often than users who don't.

IPL News archive: how to use our 80+ news posts

The IPL News section is our breaking-news and match-report hub. It contains 80+ posts covering IPL 2024, 2025, and 2026 seasons, with new posts published daily during the IPL season (April-May) and weekly during the off-season.

How to use the archive: News posts are organized by date (newest first) and tagged by topic (auction, injuries, captaincy, schedule, etc.). Use the search bar to find specific content, or browse by category from the navigation menu.

Editorial standards for news posts: Every news post goes through a 3-step verification process: (1) cross-reference the source with at least 2 independent sources, (2) cross-check against official IPL communication channels, (3) tag the story with a confidence level (confirmed, likely, rumored). For breaking news, we aim to publish within 30 minutes of confirmation.

For match reports: Follow a 4-tier system: bullet summary (within 5 minutes of match end), full report (within 2 hours), tactical analysis (within 6 hours), and fantasy takeaways (within 12 hours). Each tier serves a different reader need.

For IPL 2026 specifically: The 2026 season coverage includes pre-season squad analysis, weekly captain recommendations, and live updates throughout the season. Subscribe to our newsletter (free, weekly) for personalized updates.
